Guardian Long Read – Why we must save the EU

April 10, 2016

One of the more interesting of Varoufakis’s pieces so far. Goes into family story, negotiations as FinMin, a brief exploration of sovereignty vs power.

Concludes by advocating a democratized but still powerful EU as the means of shifting the balance between the winners and losers of the Eurozone experiment. This despite YV’s failed attempt to assert Greek sovereignty vs EU/EC finance policy. By his reasoning, EU-exits, by dismantling concentration of power at the continental level, would fail because individual countries would not have enough power to withstand having their financial systems held hostage, as Greece did. (do I have this this right?)
