The Schumpeter hotel: income inequality and social mobility [gl-ne]

April 3, 2016

Link to a short musing on intergenerational economic mobility vs inequality. Challenges an assumption underlying the US’s emphasis on “equality of opportunity”.

Asks “do we have the ability to create equality of opportunity, while maintaining inequality of wealth/income?”

Suggests that we also ask “what if (in)equality of opportunity follows from (in)equality of wealth/income”.
