Sometimes leaders pick the wrong allies…
IBM. Standard Oil. Ford. GM. The English Royal Family. Perhaps even the U.S. Government.
In their fear of communism, they reached out to make friends with an alternative power in the 1930’s. Turned out to be a rather big “oops”. People make mistakes, the point isn’t that we should expect perfection. The point is we should, most positively, expect imperfection. When business leaders, aristocrats, statesmen, or even just ordinary people say something the lines of “trust me / trust us, XXX is our friend”, we have a responsibility to verify.
Here’s one about the English Royals.
Who knows, maybe someday we will see similar stuff about IS/Daesh.
